Je jouera au hockey contre la faim
Montreal holds a special place for us because it’s home to the first ever Five Hole for Food game when we started the tour in 2010. Returning to La Belle Province, we were gearing up for game five of thirteen after coming out of Atlantic Canada with over 20,000 pounds of food raised and couldn’t wait to get on the court as we played in Windsor Court outside the home of the Habs for Moisson Montreal.

The day had a star studded lineup which included the Montreal Canadiens owner Geoff Molson, ex-Canadiens Alumni Sergio Momesso and Gilbert Delorme, and the day even has Canadiens legend Rejean Houle stop by to say hi. Let me tell you, you can see that 1973 Stanley Cup ring of his from a mile away! Montreal’s names came out to play for Moisson Montreal as we were also joined by local star Annakin Slayd as well as chef Chuck Hughes and Montreal Stars very own, Carla Hill!

With a perfect day for road hockey, the court buzzing, and our game next to one of the most storied arenas in hockey history, it seemed like everything was in place for a game that was going to yield plenty of food and help us top our efforts in Montreal over the last two years. As the day went in, the donations poured in, and Moisson Montreal was busy tallying the donations. Joined by various community partners people were playing games of mega-large Jenga thanks to our friends from Yelp Montreal and ING Direct who had been collecting food leading up to the event sent joined us with their donations.

Over the past three tours it’s been a treat to watch people that were with us at our very first game, come out and support us year after year. Whether they stayed in Montreal, or moved on, it’s been incredible to see familiar friends and faces as we travel across the country heading home to Vancouver. With five games down it’s time to head to the nation’s capital for a game of shinny on Sparks Street. A day that’s sure to be filled with lots of food for the food bank, a lot of local politicians coming to join us, and endless amounts of hockey and fun, the momentum’s building as we head West!

Playing for Moisson Montreal, it was a special day for us as we blew away our totals from last year raising over 4,000 lbs of food putting on the pressure for arch rivals Ottawa and Toronto in the days to come!
