Montreal (June 29, 2010)

Today we kicked off Five Hole for Food in Montreal and what a game we had! We had a great turnout and as the sun set we played hockey scoring goals for the NDG Food Depot.

We started the trip off with 189 lbs of food and the number is just going to increase as we go from city to city. We had kids of all ages join us and it was great to see the community come together to play an intense game of hockey.

Our first grand prize, the Montreal Canadiens  signed hockey stick was won with a donation of a whopping 64 pounds of food! The bar as far as donations go is now set. We’re going to try and top that in each city and with grand prizes like a Flames team signed jersey and Canucks team signed stick there’s a lot to get excited for as the trip moves out West.

The pictures are just being processed and we’ll have our first video up soon! Gotta air out the jerseys, pack up the sticks, balls, and all the gear and after a quick stop to drop off the food at the NDG Food Depot tomorrow morning, we’re off to Ottawa for game two!

By the Numbers

2 – Hours accumulated on the trip so far from Montreal to Ottawa
3 – Assists for Vic in our first game of the trip.
3 – Number of players named Richard on Team Red
4 – Points for Richard. 2 goals and 2 assists makes for a solid start to the trip.
8 – Number of cities left on the tour. Ottawa, Toronto, Winnipeg, Regina, Calgary, Edmonton, Victoria, Vancouver
22 – Goals for Team Black  in our Montreal game
25 – Goals for Team Red in our Montreal game
189 – Pounds of food raised for the NDG Food Depot in Montreal
195 – Kilometers driven from Montreal to Ottawa and total kilometers driven since the trip started.

Game 1 is in the books! We were worried about the weather. Throughout the day the rain came and went, and even up until game time there were sprinkles here and there. Mother Nature did her part in the end, and the sky cleared up enough to have the sun shine down on our inaugural Five Hole For Food game! Looking forward to our next game in Ottawa!
