Ottawa

Ottawa (June 30, 2010)

Ottawa marks the first stop in Ontario for Five Hole for Food as we continue to travel West to Vancouver. Mother nature was out to get us but as we said from day one, rain or shine we were going to play. A big thank you to Peter Raaymakers for helping organize the game and with that in mind it was rather fitting he scored the eventual game winner.

As we played in what started as a torrential downpour we found out soon that while it was a wet affair it was a a lot of fun. Diving in hockey took on a new meaning with the pools that formed on the court and so did the hockey notion of “getting dirty in the corners”.

We had the Ottawa 67s out and we broke trip digits as we raised another 100lbs of food on our trip, this time for the Ottawa Food Bank. One of our attendees, Frank, even decided to bring a little bit of vintage to our game. He showed up with some sticks that can only be described as old school, and one even had no curve.  After wrapping things up in what was Vic and Richard’s first trip to Ottawa, day two is done and tomorrow is going to see a big game in Toronto. Vic’s team Red won for the second game in a row after what was a low scoring affair. Team Red’s sudden death 8-7 OT win gives Team Red a 2-0 lead in the trip. Richard’s plan, unbeknownst to Vic, is to spot him the 4-0 lead before storming back in Philadelphia Flyer fashion for a 5-4 series win!

Snapshots

Our game in Ottawa saw Riley the Racoon of the 67s come out and we didn’t let Mother Nature get in the way as we went top shelf, stick side, off the boards, and five hole all for food and the Ottawa Food Bank. Tomorrow we head to Toronto and couldn’t be more thrilled to celebrate Canada Day in the most Canadian way possible, with some hockey!
